Inspired by Eventbrite I’ve been thinking recently, about if I could put together a dream panel of authors, who would it be and what would I ask. I’m a really lucky bunny because since my introduction to blogging I’ve met loads of authors that I’ve always wanted to meet and so I actually found this quite difficult. At first, I thought it would be dead easy, but not at all!
Who would be on my panel?
Milly Johnson – because she’s the lady who inspired me to start blogging which led eventually to full time employment in the book world and I’ll be eternally grateful to her for that. Coupled with the fact that she’s one of the most naturally funny people I’ve ever met, and I could listen to her talk for hours and she’s awesome on a panel. This is why Milly got me started in this fabulous blogging lark – you can read why by clicking here.
Jo Malone – I’m reading her auto-biography at the moment and also listened to her story recently on Desert Island Discs. She seems like a lovely lady, really interesting and I’d ask her to make up the goody bags!
Enid Blyton – it was Enid Blyton books which kept me stuck with a nose in my book as a child with her Famous Five Books, The Wishing Chair, The Magic Faraway Tree and The Naughtiest Girl in school. I always envied the character of Elizabeth as she got to take a big chest back to boarding school full of goodies and she played lacrosse. I always wanted to play lacrosse!
James Patterson – I was once on holiday and had run out of books and picked up a JP book that my other half was reading. This opened up a whole new world to me as I completely devoured every one of his books. In fact someone went on a mission for me, as a surprise, and decided they were going to buy me every one of his books, not realising just how many he’d written. I’d love to ask him loads of questions!
Danielle Steele – as a teenager, it was Danielle’s books that I read from cover to cover and the ones that made me sob my heart out and made my mom come and tell me off for reading way too late!
Carole Matthews – LOVE this lady, great fun, great company, a lovely lady and I’ve been to some amazing events that she’s organised. Since I read her very first book Let’s Meet on Platform 8, I’ve devoured every single one of her books the second I can. She’d be a perfect addition to my panel!
What would I ask?
I would ask them all if they had the opportunity to put a panel of authors together, who would they pick, how they got into publishing, if they weren’t in publishing, what career path would they have chosen.
I would also open up the floor and let the audience ask questions and not finish until everyone had asked everything they wanted to. We went to an event recently which was great with Graham Norton where the first 45 minutes of the event was chatting to an interviewer, then after the break there was a 45 minute question and answer session which seemed to end really quickly yet we could have sat there all night listening to him chatting away!
Who would moderate?
ME! You think I’d let someone else get to ask questions of these people! NOT A CHANCE!
Thank you to Eventbrite for this cool blog post idea! It’s actually inspired me to do more posts of this type so watch out folks! And if you are looking for a resource to plan/find conferences in your local area, definitely check out their conference management page.
So over to you guys and gals. Who would you choose to be on your author panel (alive or not), why have you picked them and what would you ask them? I’d LOVE your comments on either this post or on my facebook or twitter feeds.
