I absolutely love Carmel’s books so when I heard she had a new one coming out, I couldn’t wait till publication day. I was even happier when invited to be on the blog tour for My Pear-Shaped Life.
About the book
She’s hiding so much behind her big smile she’s forgotten who she is.
But Greta is about to discover that the key to being happy is…being yourself.
Greta Gale has played the part of the funny fat one her entire life, hiding her insecurities behind a big smile. But size doesn’t matter when you can laugh at yourself, right?
Until Greta realises she’s the only one not laughing. And deep down, she’s not sure if she’ll ever laugh again.
But Greta is about to discover that sometimes the best moments in life come when it’s all gone a bit pear-shaped…
So what did I think?
I found this book utterly glorious! My favourite Carmel Harrington book yet I think. I couldn’t have loved Greta Gale more. I felt like she was in my own head a lot of the time.
This is a hard book to review, because I don’t want to give away any spoilers at all, but I will tell you that the very special relationship between Greta and her Uncle Ray made this one incredible story for me.
This is a book about following your dreams, not wasting your life, and realising that you ARE good enough. This is a very powerful book which also made me want to visit the places that were mentioned – I’m not going to tell you where they are, because it’s not discussed in the retailer description, but when I googled some of them while reading, I had this urge to go there. Particularly the library!
This is a wonderfully life-affirming book, which I think many people will relate to very much. Carmel’s warmth and humour shines through as it does in all her books and it was an absolute pleasure and a delight to read.
There is a blog tour taking place, so you can check out the other bloggers reviews. It has outstanding comments and it’s totally understandable!
