Blog tour review – Close Your Eyes by Rachel Abbott

Delighted to be involved in the blog tour for yet another cracking instalment in the Tom Douglas crime thriller series by Rachel Abbott.

About the book

Don’t let him under your skin. He’ll destroy you.

Don’t fight him. He’ll win.

Run. Never let him find you.

I thought I was safe here, but I’m not. I’ve stayed too long. Now Genevieve is dead, and the police are on their way. It’s time for me to go.

I must stick to the plan – the one I made the day I arrived in this city. My bag is packed. It always is. I will destroy every shred of evidence of my existence. The police must never find me. If they do, so will he.

I made a mistake, and someone had to die. But I’m the one who has truly lost her life.

I need to make a choice. If I keep running, I’ll never stop. If I go back, he will make me suffer.

What did I think?

I love this series so much! I love learning more about Tom and Becky in each book. I do hope we get to see a little more of Becky’s home life too in future books.

The fact that Martha was written in the first person, made her story feel very personal and immediate. Every time I heard her talk about Lakeside, I felt a nervous, really unsettling, uneasy feeling in my tummy which really did build to a crescendo and got me feeling quite stressed at times. The character of Aram was so well written that I hated him from the moment we met him. I felt myself wanting to shout at some of the characters, some bits really got to me. Finding out why she acted the way she did, made me really empathise with her.

As always, from page one, you become immersed in a Rachel Abbott book and quickly feel part of their crime-fighting team who we are still learning about in each instalment. Tom, is such a wonderful character. A proper, decent bloke who I would absolutely want on my side. Reading about his home life too, is a real treat and you really do feel like a fly on the wall.

This really is such a cracking series that I hope never ends. Rachel is a super talented author and her books are so enjoyable. I soon raced through this one, compelled to turn each page and it’s not often that a book leaves me reading late into the night these days, but I found myself waking up in the middle of the night and my first thought was to read it rather than go back to sleep. This book got all the stars from me. I couldn’t recommend this series more!
